When The Wellness Tank Runs Dry

wellHow does the phrase “mind, body, spirit” come into play when we are talking about clutter and having your life in order?  Well, we’ve all heard the saying that a cluttered desk means a cluttered mind, right?  I think we could all agree that there’s some truth to that.  So what the heck does body and spirit have to do with it?  We know they are connected, but it is my belief that we don’t realize how connected they are until we experience something profound for ourselves.  For example, a few months ago I was working out with a holistic personal trainer.  In the weeks before I had been able to kneel and balance on an exercise ball for up to 8 minutes at a time.  On this particular day, there was some emotional turmoil that I was dealing with, and I could not balance on that exercise ball for even a few seconds.  I couldn’t figure out what had changed in my body and why I couldn’t balance on it.  All of a sudden it hit me.  Emotional issues were blocking my body from doing what I did yesterday and in the days and weeks before.  The light bulb went on, and brightly did it shine.  In my own understanding, I realized that this same block occurs with my clients and their clutter.  I knew it was there, but I guess I didn’t realize how profound it was for them.  I view it like rock, scissors, and paper.  Rock can crush scissors; paper can cover rock and so forth.  It’s the same principal with mind, body, spirit.  Problems with your body can crush your spirit; if your mind’s not quite right, it reflects in your body – stress is a big factor that comes to mind.  So how do we unblock ourselves so we can be as productive and happy as we want to be?  How do we prevent our spirit from getting crushed, or our body covered up with the games we let our mind play with us?  I believe that awareness is the key.  Of course, awareness is the first step, and a big one at that.  The second step, also a big one, is to make a choice to do something about it.  The thing is that by this point people feel very overwhelmed and don’t know where to start.  Frankly, some people also feel embarrassed because they “shouldn’t” have let things get out of control or they know in their heart they know how to get out of their situation, but they seem to be frozen by indecision, guilt, etc.  Sound familiar?  These same feelings might also be compared to when someone is dealing with an addiction to drugs, alcohol, or even being overweight and dieting.  The wellness tank has run dry, but how does one fill it up again?  It was quite interesting for me to discover that when I am tired, but I muster up the energy to go work out, I have more energy.  How does that happen I ask of myself?  It just does.  When clients ask me, “where do I start?”  My answer is, just start!  It just works, and there is no thinking about it.  If you simply make the choice to take action and start moving your body, your mind will kick in.  Guess what happens then?  Your spirit will get the hang of things; see that you are making progress, get motivated, and then the positive cycle starts.  Have faith that the well is not completely dried up, just parched.  Take that first step, see some of that energy and spunk flow back in your well, and you will be on your way to connecting mind, body and spirit.  Your well will soon be open wide, and good things will be flowing your way.
