Organized Delivery When Networking Is Number One

I know, organizing kitchens, closets and home offices are my expertise, but I felt it was necessary to cover this topic.  Why?  Because I get new clients from making connections at local networking events, and for me, it is imperative to be organized and put together.  When I speak, what comes out of my mouth, how I deliver my message is number one to me.  My company’s foundation started from me hosting a meetup group to help women “Organize Their Face and Organize Their Space”.  My concept for this MeetUp group stemmed from being in corporate America for 20 years and seeing the most qualified people get passed up for promotions because of how they presented themselves not only in physical appearance but how they verbally communicated.  My point here is that if you want to come across as a business owner who people will refer business to, be organized in your delivery of your 30 second commercial, or in networking before or after every meeting.  People generally want to know what you can do for them, and they certainly don’t want to be sold anything.  I have found that it is better to figure out what you’re going to say it before it comes out of your mouth.  This prevents you from rambling on, not being clear, and honestly not embarassing yourself.  The biggest thing here is don’t keep talking once your time is up.  This is my opinion – the longer you keep talking the less people listen.  After all, you are cutting into their time, and it’s just plain disrespectful.  If you have 2 words left, okay fine, but 2 sentences – nope!  That shows me that you talk more than you listen, and I if a would like to a refer a client to you, are you more interested in talking about yourself or helping them?  Consequently, are you going to just try to sell them something or really care about helping them?  I am by no means an expert networker, but I do think I’ve learned a whole lot in the last 3 years.  Take it or leave it, but I say deliver your message short, sweet and to the point and you will go far.
