Don’t Let Your Closet Run Your Life

So many people have closets stuffed full of clothes that they don’t ever wear, don’t fit into anymore, or are waiting to fit into.  I don’t know about you, but I am excited when I get new clothes so I naturally wear them right away.  Many people buy in excess, and have lots of clothes hanging in their closet still with the tags on.  Why is this a problem?  Well, think about it….

Most closets are not big enough, and they don’t have enough room to begin with.  In order to get ready for a business meeting or a night out on the town, a struggle ensues.  The struggle is with all of the stuff in your closet.  How long does it take you to get your underwear, your outfit, your accessories and your shoes put together?  If it takes more than say 3 minutes, then you might want to do an assessment and think about organizing your closet.

My biggest organizing tip for the closet is have everything alike together.  Pants should be all together, belts all together, socks all together and so on.  Declutter your closet first by getting rid of unwanted items, or items that don’t fit any longer.  Make a bag for trash, and a bag for donating, and get started.  Where do you ask?  Just do it, start somewhere and stick with it.

Another tip – don’t buy organizing products until you declutter.  Find out what clothes you have to work with, look at the space you have and what will work best, then buy the items that makes the most sense.  If you get stuck or overwhelmed, give me a ring.  I am always here to help!
