The Top 10 “Most Uncommon” Spring Cleaning Tips
#1 – Check out all prescription and over the counter medicines for expiration dates and dispose of the expired ones. Put the remaining ones up and away from children’s reach.
#2 – Clean the inside of refrigerator and freezer. Don’t forget to clean the top of refrigerator and to vacuum the grill on the front and the coil on the back.
#3 – Clean your dryer vent. If it takes more than 1 cycle to dry your clothes, this may present a fire hazard. Keeping your dryer vent clean also saves on your electric bill and prolongs the life of your dryer.
#4 – Check all fire extinguishers to make sure they are not expired. Every house should have at least 3 fire extinguishers. One in the kitchen, one near the bedrooms, and one in the garage.
#5 – Check all smoke detectors and replace batteries if necessary.
#6 – Reorganize kitchen cabinets and pantry to make things more efficient. The kitchen is the heart of the home and needs to run smoothly to promote healthy eating and enjoyable family time.
#7 – Gather up all unused AC adapters, power cords, and electrical cords. Discard any that are obsolete and if possible label remaining cords by placing them in storage bags and writing what’s inside with a permanent marker.
#8 – Wash all porcelain figurines in warm water to clean dust off. This not only makes them shine, but prevents them from becoming brittle and breaking easily.
#9 – Check toilets, sinks, showers and bathtubs for leaks and repair if necessary. A good time to recaulk too!
#10 – Get air conditioning unit serviced to clean coils and check coolant levels. Don’t want to get stuck in the heat of the summer with no cold air!
